Day tour to Bayano Caves

Live a unique and unforgettable experience in the heart of the tropical forest of the Maje mountain range. Bayano Lake is located in the eastern part of the province of Panama, created when the Bayano River was dammed in 1976. In terms of size, Lake Bayano is the second largest lake in Panama, only surpassed by Gatun lake.

The lake and river are named for the rebel Bayano, leader of Panama's largest slave revolt of the 16th century.

Before reaching the main caves, crossing Lake Bayano, we will arrive at a cave called Guhamra. We will also make a visit to the Cañon del Tigre. On the way to this point, we will observe a large number of birds, some reptiles and howler monkeys, and in some cases capybaras.

Inside the caves, we will be covered in water most of the time. Bats will fly close to us, fish will swim between our feet, and we will appreciate specific plants of this ecosystem. The caves are spectacular, we will observe parts of the caves with light that create incredible views and others totally closed where we can see water falling from the ceiling of the caves.

Before returning to the starting point of the caves, we will finish the tour in a beautiful natural pool where you can swim, cool off and enjoy jumping from the rocks that surround it. On the way back, we will have a delicious Panamanian lunch.

Very good organization; always fast communication/response by Pablo/EcuaTraveling. The program took us to places and people we would not have selected/visited and that made it unique. The acclimatization tour @ Iliniza Norte was a great choice!

Working with this company has been a pleasure. Christina was responsive, helpful, thoughtful, accommodating and extremely pleasant to work with. Waita Lodge is THE PLACE TO STAY in the Amazon. Owned and operated by local Ecuadorians, you get their true experience, and with passion, of the Amazon from people with an authentic love and care for the local community and environment of the Amazon. The food was amazing, meals prepared beautifully, service attentive and the environment homey. Portion of the profits go to advocacy efforts in the local communities of the Amazon.

We had a great experience with our tour guide Stui! He told us so much about the volcanos, the history and people of the region! We enjoyed the tour because we got to taste Bizcochos at the place where they are made, we went to Lago de San Pablo, the Otavalo market, Cotacachi and hiked a bit in Cuicocha to see the beautiful lake! This experience was amazing, many thanks to our guide Stui, you are going a great job!!!
